Have you ever eaten kangaroo? It is legal to eat farmed kangaroos. However, farmed kangaroos are very rare, so very few people have eaten them. Of course, very few people will cook them. As it happens, I worked as a chef in a high-end hotel and have experience in roasting kangaroo meat. If you want to learn to roast kangaroo meat, then follow me!

How to roast kangaroo meat

How do you roast kangaroos? Don’t worry, let’s prepare the ingredients first. Let’s go buy some kangaroo meat. There are boxes of kangaroo meat in supermarkets. But it can be expensive, we just buy one or two boxes to taste.  Then buy some cumin powder, salt, cooking oil, soy sauce and onions. Those are the usual kitchen supplies at our home. If you have them before, you can use them.

So, surely some people will ask, how to choose kangaroo meat? Because kangaroos have a unique sour taste, so many people will think that this kangaroo is not fresh. This sour taste of kangaroo is fresh. Don’t be afraid. Well, let me tell you how to choose. The deep burgundy kangaroo meat tastes very sweet.

Secondly, the meat is soft but not greasy, so kangaroo meat is very fresh. Kangaroo meat is a bit older than beef and tastes a bit strong. Kangaroo roast is by no means better than roast beef, but it is quite delicious.

For our kangaroo steak recipe choose the fresh steak to cook. You can choose other parts if you don’t have enough budget.

Step 1

First, we buy the kangaroo meat before, open the packaging, and take out the kangaroo meat. You will smell a strange smell. It is not bad, this meat has a normal taste. When we take the kangaroo meat out, we put about 20g salt on the surface of the kangaroo meat and make sure it’s all over. It can get rid of the fishy meat and have a better taste when we eat it.

Step 2

After ten minutes, we can go to see if the kangaroo meat is not so fishy. If it is not so fishy, we will wash the salt on the surface of the kangaroo meat. Then rub it while washing, wash off the blood of the kangaroo meat and rinse it off.

Step 3

After washing, we take out the cutting board. Then put the kangaroo meat on the cutting board, and then use a knife to slice the kangaroo meat. Some people like a little thin. Some people like a little thick. In fact, it does not matter. The thin one will roast for a while. The thick one will roast for a little longer. I like it thick, so I’ll just cut the kangaroo with a knife.

Step 4

Then, we put the kangaroo meat slices in a bowl, then take out cooking oil, soy sauce, cooking wine and some onions. Then put these ingredients together in the bowl, rub with our hands to mix the kangaroo meat slices and these ingredients evenly. It can help us to remove the fishy taste deeply.

Step 6

After half an hour, bring out the kangaroo meat and take out the air fryer which you usually have in your house. This air fryer is a very useful cooking machine so I recommend buying an air fryer if you don’t have one. Put the kangaroo meat on the roasting pan of the air fryer.

Step 7

Push in the pan of the air fryer, put the lid on the pan, turn it on. Turn the air fryer onto the grill and turn it up to 150 degrees, and bake it for 25 minutes.  Or you can turn it up for 13 minutes, turn it over after 13 minutes, and then repeat the process again. Turning can make the meat to cook more evenly.

Step 8

When the kangaroo meat is done, you can turn off the air fryer and open it. Drag out the roasting pan, use tongs to remove the kangaroo meat, and place it on a plate. At this point, you can sprinkle the kangaroo meat with your favorite seasoning.

I like spicy food. So I dusted it with cumin and paprika. You just sprinkle the right amount of seasoning to your taste. By the way, I also recommend that you add some onions because Onions are crunchy and very satisfying to chew. Otherwise, you can add some vegetables like tomatoes to match this wonderful kangaroo meat recipe.

The smell of kangaroo meat from the roast was everywhere, and the children in the neighborhood came running over. And I let them taste the delicious kangaroo meat. They all found it very strange, and they reported that the kangaroo meat had a nice smell, and they wanted to have another bite.

It doesn’t taste as good as beef, but the meat is tender and chewy. And kangaroo meat has high nutritional value. In short, kangaroo meat is a healthy and delicious food, but also one of Australia’s unique food cultures. It is worth giving a food lover a try. If you have any recipe for barbecue kangaroo roast, you can also compare our recipe with it. Just don’t forget to tell me the difference.
